This is an introductory video on how to manually measure blood pressure. The cuff is placed on the upper arm above the brachial artery and the stethoscope is positioned over the artery. The cuf is then inflated enough to stop blood flow (180 mmHg) and is then slowly deflated. The first rhythmic sound heard when blood begins to flow through the artery is the systolic pressure. The diastolic reading is the pressure at which the sounds fade. It is important to make sure that the patient"s legs are uncrossed and that their feet are flat on the ground to avoid inaccurate readings.
