Dr. Raj Banerjee introduces a series of videos titled “24 Ways Your Thyroid Can Go Wrong”.
Let’s talk Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TGA) connection to thyroid function.
We are now on pattern 7 on how your thyroid can go wrong. I hope these patterns are helping you learn why you are having a thyroid issue. With pattern 7 we are looking at thyroglobulin antibodies (TGA), which can be found on a blood test.
TGA is very similar to TPO antibodies that we mentioned in a previous lesson. TGA is a protein that is in the thyroid gland, and your immune system has targeted this as a foreign object. So this is an autoimmune problem, which means your immune system is attacking your thyroid gland.
In this pattern you may experience normal thyroid levels, TSH, T4, and even T3; but there could be high and low differentiations in the thyroid levels in the normal range. You may experience something called Hashimoto’s disease where you could be hypothyroid, where your levels are lower; or hyperthyroid, where your levels are higher.
On your blood test you are going to see TGA and TPO test as positive, but everything else look normal. You could be experiencing symptoms like headaches; anxiety; heart palpitations; and things like this when you are having higher spikes.
When you are having low spikes you could experience things like fatigue; weight gain; feeling cold; tired all the time; things like this. You could go through these highs and lows for months into years before you actually know what is going on with your thyroid gland. So it is important for you to know what tests need to be run.
Also to find out for you what is actually going on in the immune system; and later on down the road you may have to be on a hormone replacement to stabilize your thyroid hormone. I hope this has helped you get more information on ways your thyroid can go wrong.
