A research report found that a smartphone app designed to check user"s blood pressure completely missed high blood pressure readings 80% of the time. Lead researcher Dr. Timothy Plante said that "Instant Blood Pressure," supposedly provides an estimated blood pressure reading while putting their phone on the left side of their chest and their index finder on the phone"s camera. The study was conducted by internists at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. Although the team used test subjects that all had high blood pressure, the app gave a normal blood pressure reading for 8 out of every 10 people. The nearly $5 app is no longer for sale in the iTunes or Google play stores.
